NGBB Herbarium Management and Digitisation Training
Between 18–21 January 2023, Dr. Hassan Najman Muhamed, Honar Safar Mahdi, Ahmed Mohammed Hasan Mustafa Mahmood and Wajed Issam Hussein from the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Duhok took part in training at our garden.
The University of Duhok was founded in 1992 in the city of Duhok, Northern Iraq. With nearly 23,000 students across 19 faculties, it is an important education and research institution for the region. Having started work on a Botanic Garden project on a two-hectare area, the university also included the herbarium — the brain of a botanic garden — in its projects.
Delivered under the main headings of Herbarium Management, Database Management, Digitisation of Herbarium Specimens and Virtual Herbarium Management, the training lasted 4 days, together with a visit to the ISTF Herbarium.
Certificates were presented to the participants who successfully completed the training. In addition, a Bilateral Cooperation Agreement was signed with the ANG Foundation and the Nezahat Gökyiğit Botanic Garden to develop the University of Duhok's Botanic Garden and Herbarium.
